Everywhere I look there is someone somewhere talking about detoxes. It feels like you cannot get away from the constant detox debate and discussion. Well, there is a reason! Detoxing is vital to good health. That’s right, I said it, we all NEED to DETOX REGULARLY! There is a reason health and wellness experts are all on the same page. We all know just how many random toxins (both environmental and nutritional) you are exposed to regularly. The body has the ability to detox itself naturally. However, there is a limit to how much it can do. That is why it is so important for us to do our part in aiding our bodies as they remove these toxins. Not sure if you are past due for a detox? What is Your Body Saying?
Did you know your body is constantly talking to you? Most of us only listen when it is regarding hunger or bathroom breaks. But our bodies are always actively communicating its needs to us. The hardest part is learning how to interpret the bodies different forms of communication. One of the most common ways the body likes to get its needs across is in the form of signs and symptoms. Ancient Chinese Medicine utilizes and interprets these signs and symptoms to create a plan of action on how to correct them. Because our bodies are unable to process large quantities of toxins, high levels tend to produce a similar set of signs and symptoms. Due to the fact that the skin is the largest organ, the majority of signs show up here first.
Does Your Body Need Help?
Because toxin build up can affect all areas of the body you will find that it can lead to even more health related issues when left unchecked. The following is a list of some of the more common signs and symptoms that can indicate the need to detox:

I am sure by now you have realized you have several of these signs and symptoms. Don’t worry even the healthiest of us do. The harsh reality is that due to our constant exposure to high levels of toxins both in our environment and food it has become almost impossible to keep up! That is why it is so important for us to detox regularly and frequently while also doing everything within our power to reduce our toxic exposure. There are several different things to incorporate into your diet. However, depending on which area of your body you are trying to detox different foods and supplements are going to be more ideal. With that in mind a safe bet is to start with the body’s detoxing powerhouse the liver and let it do the bulk of the heavy lifting for you.
Help Your Liver Out!
One of my personal favorite ways to help support your liver is through nutrition. I mean let’s face it, everything boils down to nutrition. What you put into your body will directly determine what you can get out of it. With that in mind, the following is a list of key foods you should consume more frequently are:
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Walnuts
- Lemons
- Kale
- Sweet Potatoes
- Brussel Sprouts
- Beets
- Avocado
- Radishes
- Cabbage
- Onions
- Garlic
- Cauliflower
Treat Your Body Right!
Most importantly you want to avoid as much processed food and artificial foods as possible. It is also a good idea to eliminate dairy, gluten, and high fat foods. This will help to reduce the amount of work your liver has to do. Thus, freeing it up to focus more on detoxing the body naturally. You can also look into the addition of supplements such as a probiotic, Zendocrine, zinc, or oregano. I love to use essential oils, that way I can put them into a capsule and apply them topically. Warning oregano is a hot oil you will want to dilute it with a carrier oil prior to application and avoid getting it into your eyes, don’t take for longer then two weeks. The Zendocrine oil I apply directly over my liver and I put it into a veggie capsule to take multiple times a day.

Green Monster Detox Smoothie
Gluten-Free Serves 1
- 2 scoops of vanilla Isagenix Protein powder
- 1 cup Bai Clementine or Coconut Water
- 1/2 Frozen Banana
- 1 Cup Frozen Pineapple
- 1/4 Cup Spinach
- 1/2 Cup Frozen Strawberries
Directions:
In a blender combine all ingredients and blend on high until desired texture has been reached. Enjoy!
