The thyroid is one of the organs that are commonly overlooked. When it comes to our body’s functioning at its optimum ability our thyroid is critical for our hormonal regulation. Just in case you are new here, your hormones control and regulate everything! When your thyroid becomes overtaxed your metabolism, immune system, and overall health starts to fall apart. With that said, it is extremely easy for your thyroid to get burnt out.
There are so many things that play a role in keeping your thyroid happy. Some of the biggest issues that create an imbalance when it comes to our thyroid’s happiness are excess stress, missing nutrients, compromised liver, leaky gut, and adrenal fatigue. This laundry list of health issues is a lot to deal with on its own. However, one of the things most people don’t realize is that they are all connected! This means that more often than not individuals suffer from multiple issues on the list.
What Happens When It All Adds Up?
More often than not, individuals who have developed a thyroid issue will develop more health issues. So for example, let’s say someone has poor nutrition, which in turn leads to a leaky gut. These symptoms will cause excess strain on the thyroid until it gives out. At this point, more health issues begin to pop up until the issues consume everything. A lot of people hear the concept that everything is connected and tend to become overwhelmed. Fortunately, when everything is tied together improving one area helps heal and support the others! This means all you have to do is pick one thing you know you can work on and do it well. In the end, everything will come together as long as you are consistent.
When I work with clients I always suggest starting with nutrition. One of the best things about choosing nutrition is the fact that it is easily controlled, it hits every aspect of your body (we are what we eat), and you get to see/feel results within one month. People often overlook the importance of nutrition and just how powerful it can be at taking back control of your health and happiness.
Entering The Danger Zone
Before we dive in on just how easy it can be to restore your health utilizing nutrition let’s address why you should prioritize your thyroid. Your thyroid issues can lead to hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease, Grave’s disease, goiters, thyroid nodules, and more. The thyroid has few focused obligations. As such, it struggles to take on any additional tasks that may be pushed onto it during times of stress.
Unlike the liver, the thyroid is unable to heal itself and it is far less resilient. The liver has the unique ability to take on high levels of abuse and still show up for work, and take on even more work than it originally signed up for. While everything is connected every body part has a job and only a handful of organs are able to take on any excess strain that the body may endure. Unfortunately, the thyroid is not one of them. It is extremely fragile and any extra workload no matter how small will cause the delicate balance within the thyroid to break.
Keep It Simple
One of the best ways to help support all of your organs is to detox regularly. Personally, I recommend detoxing using food. In doing so, you not only help your body remove any unnecessary toxins. But you also help provide your body with the building blocks it needs to thrive. The best part is, that it is easier than you may think!
