How To Find Your Zen 101

We have all heard the saying “Your body is your temple” or  “You are what you eat.” If both adages are true, then most of us are trashing our place of worship. To your health and your body, “trash” refers to all the junk and toxins accumulate in our body because of daily stress, poor eating habits, and polluted environments. Your body naturally works to rid itself of these toxins, but it works hard, and it needs all the support it can get. Working with your body and providing it with more “weapons” for battling toxins can reduce the strain on your body’s natural system, delay aging, and promote better overall health.

Get Your Priorities In Order

The first, most important step in cleansing your body is to identify the sources of the toxins that find their way into your body and compromise your health. Toxins are either physical or psychological. Physical toxins include the byproducts of unhealthy foods and range from sugar and white flour to tobacco and alcohol. Let’s face it no matter how much we reduce our toxic exposure there are always going to be things that are out of our control. We are constantly exposed to environmental toxins that can wreak havoc on our bodies. Now, while our bodies have been designed to naturally detoxify, the amounts of toxins we are exposed to in today’s modern lifestyle are more than our bodies are capable of handling alone. Have no fear because today you are going to learn everything you need to know to ensure you are reducing your toxic load naturally.

Keep It Simple

Cleansing your body is not difficult, and it does not require lengthy and complicated diet plans. The best, most effective way to cleanse your body is to eat natural and neutral ingredients. Ingredients that are too acidic or too basic for the pH of the body contribute to a toxic environment inside your body. Your body also harbors psychological toxins in the form of stress, anxiety, self-pity, ego or negative emotions. Once you have identified the sources of various toxins and you have done what you can to prevent their reentry to your body, focus on “anti-toxins” that support your body and help battle those toxins that are unavoidable and inevitable.

What’s in it for you?

There are several benefits to detoxing that make it ideal to incorporate into your lifestyle. Detoxing has been shown to help dramatically increase energy levels. Who couldn’t use a little bit of a pick me up from time to time? It aids internal organs and improves digestion. Detoxing reduces inflammation and slows down the aging process. It strengthens your immune system while also providing mental clarity. Detoxing also has amazing benefits for skin and hair such as: hair strength, length, and shine, skin clarity, texture, radiance, and color. It helps balance hormones and improve mood. More importantly detoxing helps with weight management and reducing body odor!

Do You Need To Detox?

As I mentioned before in this post, we all need to detox regularly. Depending on how healthy you are, you may need to detox less than others. For example, approximately eight hours after eating our bodies naturally enter detoxification mode, whereas for healthier individuals it takes about four hours. There are some signs you can watch out for that help indicate you NEED to detox NOW.

  • Constantly feeling exhausted, stressed, or overwhelmed
  • Lack of mental clarity
  • Frequent headaches
  • Constantly sick
  • Digestive issues
  • Breakouts or dull lack-luster complexion
  • Carry excess weight
  • Bad breath or BO
  • Emotional instability

Ease Your Body Into It

Water is a fundamental element and composes most of our body.  Almost all of our bodily processes depend on water. The average person should drink eight or more glasses of water a day. Before buying anything or trying any other products, increase your water intake. Herbal teas and detoxifying juices are an easy way to boost your immune system and detoxify your body. Chamomile tea relaxes your mind and soul; ginger tea improves the immune system and wards off digestive disorders. Green tea is a powerful antioxidant and combats the toxins in our bodies. Detoxifying juices are more of a “catch-all.” You can add any number of natural herbs and fruits for a powerful combination of health benefits.

Pumpkin Spinach Spaghetti

Gluten Free Vegan Serves 2

  • 1 Spaghetti Squash Roasted
  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 Cups Pumpkin Cubed
  • 3 Garlic Cloves Minced
  • 2 Cups Spinach
  • ½-1 tsp Chilli Flakes
  • ¼ Cup Walnuts Chopped

  • Salt & Pepper to Taste

Directions:

Toss pumpkin in 1 Tbsp olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast pumpkin in the oven at 425 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until tender (I roast my spaghetti squash at the same time). In a large saute pan heat up the remaining oil and garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add in chilli and sage stirring frequently to avoid burning for another minute. Next, blend half the pumpkin in a blender and add it to the oil mixture. Transfer over squash noodles to sauce and add in remaining pumpkin. Add in spinach making sure to coat everything evenly adding salt and pepper as needed. Once everything is heated and coated add lemon juice and serve. Top with zest and nuts.
