Spring is finally here, with all of its beautiful flowers. The flowers are breathtaking for more than just their beauty they help kick off allergy season. If you are suffering from allergies this season think twice before reaching for those over the counter prescriptions. Keep reading to find out why you should start treating your allergies the natural way.
How do you deal with your Allergies?
Most people who suffer from allergies are quick to reach for an over the counter medication. Nowadays there seems to be a pill for everything that ails you. However, that convince seems to come with a hefty price. Research has shown that there are even more possible side effects that go with these medications than appear on the box. If you have ever heard their commercials, where they go over the laundry list of side effects that can occur while taking these pills, it can be mind boggling to hear that there are even more side effects. Some of the additional side effects include: low sex drive, increase in appetite, altered taste and smell, infertility in women, anxiety, depression, impaired thinking, and even long-term health problems.
Keep it Natural
What are allergy suffers to do? Conveniently, there are hundreds of all natural options out there. What’s even better, little to no side effects. Yes, everyone is different and therefore we react differently to the same stimulus. However, all of these natural treatments are easy for your body to identify and metabolise. Your body is just like you, it wants things it can identify! A good rule of thumb, if you cannot pronounce it you probably shouldn’t be putting it into your body.
Natural Alternatives
Alright here is the good stuff. If you are looking for foods to integrate into your diet to help deal with allergies here is a list of what to reach for: raw local honey, apple cider vinegar, quercetin, stinging nettle, butterbur, bromelain, and eating an anti-inflammatory diet. If you are looking to treat your allergies in another holistic way why not try: a neti pot, homemade nasal inhaler, eucalyptus oil, lemon oil, peppermint oil, lavender oil, and simple saline spray. What is your current allergy treatment?
It’s In The Air
Spring is finally here. The season comes with beautiful flowers and Spring cleaning. Unfortunately, for those of us with seasonal allergies it also brings tons of airborne triggers. While over-the-counter drugs can provide some relief, they also tend to come with a laundry list of side effects. Thankfully, mother nature is dedicated to providing you with safe all natural ways to help control your seasonal allergies.
Foods That Help With Allergies
There are several different foods to help you get through the season with a smile and no side effects. Foods that can help keep your seasonal allergies in check are:
- Pineapple
- Spirulina
- Berries
- Apples
- Turmeric
- Citrus
- Local Honey
Powerful Packed Foods
Pineapple contains a powerful enzyme, bromelain, which aids in the thinning of mucus and reducing occasional allergies. Spirulina contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids (it is one of the few plants that contain omega-3). Omega-3 has been linked to help support balanced immunity and reduces allergic reactions. Dark-colored berries contain an abundance of healthy phytonutrients such as anthocyanins. Anthocyanins can help improve immunity and reduce the frequency of allergy flare-ups.
Fruits That Have Your Back
Apples are a good source of quercetin, which is a powerful antioxidant compound that helps to control occasional allergies. Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant compound that supports immunity while also alleviating occasional seasonal allergies. Citrus fruits are high in bioflavonoid hesperidin, which can help control allergy flare-ups. Lastly, local honey introduces your body to tiny amounts of the allergens to help your body build up a tolerance to it.
A Great Way To Try It Now
Some of my favorite ways to use these foods is by making a smoothie or hot tea. For those of you looking to start your day off with allergy busting smoothie here is a quick recipe to try.
